Leave after breakfast

Head north through the Lost River Valley and follow the river road toward Sunbeam. Watch for bighorn sheep on the way — Morgan Creek Road is a reliable stretch.

10:00

In the raft

Twelve miles of whitewater through a granite canyon — splashy Class III waves most of the season, and June high water turns it up to Class IV. Outfitters at Sunbeam run morning trips daily in season.

2:00

Soak at Sunbeam Hot Springs

Free, right on the riverbank where hot water meets the Salmon. Rock pools, river temperature dial-your-own.

6:00

Alpenglow on Borah

Crest Willow Creek Summit on the drive home as the evening light hits the Lost River Range. Best free show in Idaho.

Make it a weekend

Stay along Highway 93.

Great little B&Bs line the route — the Mackay Homestay, the Windysage Farmstay, or Challis Hot Springs, where the room comes with its own soak.
